In a statement released on Twitter, Guy Berryman wrote, "I can't believe Jonny would betray us like this. We've been through so much together, and now he's jumped ship to join those Muse guys. It's just not right."
Will Champion chimed in with, "This is unacceptable. We had a good thing going with Coldplay, and now Jonny has ruined it all. I hope he enjoys playing second fiddle to Matt Bellamy."
But despite the backlash from his former bandmates, Jonny Buckland stands by his decision. In an interview with The Wibble, he explained, "I've always been a huge fan of Muse, and when they offered me the chance to join their band, I couldn't pass it up. Chris Martin, Coldplay's frontman, also spoke out in defense of Buckland, stating, "Jonny is a talented musician, and if this is what makes him happy, then we support him all the way. We wish him nothing but the best."
Meanwhile, Matt Bellamy of Muse welcomed Buckland with open arms, saying, "We're thrilled to have Jonny on board. He's a fantastic musician and we can't wait to see what we can create together."
