KFC's Newest Rival: The Kentucky Catfish Fillet
Kentucky Fried Chicken has finally found its match in the form of a Kentucky Catfish Fillet. Apparently, the creators of this new dish thought it was a good idea to combine two of the most American things on the planet - KFC and catfish.
As someone who has never been a huge fan of KFC, I was skeptical about this new offering. However, I was willing to give it a try in the name of journalistic integrity (and because I was hungry).
Upon opening the box, I was greeted with a piece of catfish that was roughly the size of my hand. It was breaded and fried to a golden brown, just like you would expect from KFC. I took a bite and was pleasantly surprised by the crunchiness of the breading. The catfish itself was flaky and had a subtle, but pleasant, flavor.
I decided to pair my Kentucky Catfish Fillet with some of KFC's famous mashed potatoes and gravy. The combination was surprisingly good and made me appreciate the dish even more. I couldn't help but wonder why nobody had thought of this before.
As I continued eating, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. It wasn't until I reached the end of my meal that I realized what it was - the heat. KFC is known for its spicy chicken, and the Kentucky Catfish Fillet was missing that signature kick. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it was definitely noticeable.
Overall, I would say that the Kentucky Catfish Fillet is a solid addition to KFC's menu. While it may not dethrone the famous fried chicken, it is a tasty alternative for those who want something a little different. I would give it a solid 7 out of 10 - not bad for a fish out of water.
