Reports indicate that as soon as Machine Gun Kelly began his rendition of the beloved song, Chris Cornell's spirit was suddenly brought back to earth, presumably to put an end to the butchering of his work. Witnesses say they saw the late singer's ghostly form hovering over the stage, shaking his head in disapproval.
But it wasn't just the quality of the performance that upset Cornell's spirit. As the rapper stumbled through the song, Miley Cyrus could be seen twerking in the background, adding insult to injury.
"I couldn't believe my eyes," said one concert-goer who witnessed the debacle. "It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion."
The Wibble reached out to Machine Gun Kelly for comment, but all we received was an auto-reply email with the subject line "I'm Sorry I Hassled You With My Friendship" and the message "hi."
Meanwhile, Chris Cornell's spirit reportedly flew off into the sky, leaving behind a message to his fans that he has decided to officially exit the music world forever.
"I can't handle this anymore," his message read. "I'm done. I'll see you all in the afterlife."
While fans of the late singer are undoubtedly heartbroken by this news, many are relieved that Cornell will finally be able to rest in peace without having to hear any more of Machine Gun Kelly's covers.
As for the rapper himself, he seems to have taken the whole ordeal in stride, simply tweeting out a picture of his breakfast sandwich with the caption "grateful for the little things."
