A man who spoke out against the upcoming 'Spider-Verse' sequel has been subjected to a brutal attack by angry fans.
The man, who has not been named, was attending a comic book convention when he made the fateful remark. "I just don't see the appeal of a Spider-Man movie with all these different versions," he reportedly said. "It seems like a cheap gimmick to me."
Those words proved to be his undoing, as a group of cosplayers dressed as various incarnations of Spider-Man descended upon him in a fit of rage. Brandishing foam replicas of their web-slinging hero's signature weaponry, they pelted the man with popcorn and shouted insults.
"He doesn't appreciate the artistry of the medium!" yelled one fan dressed as Spider-Man Noir, before firing a harmless foam bullet at the man's head.
Others in the crowd echoed his sentiments. "We've been waiting years for this sequel!" shouted a teenager dressed as Miles Morales, the teenaged Spider-Man introduced in the first film.
The assault continued for several minutes, with the man attempting to shield himself from the projectiles. At one point, he even tried to reason with his attackers, saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone! I just don't really like superhero movies!"
But his apologies fell on deaf ears, as the cosplayers continued their barrage. Eventually, security guards intervened, dispersing the crowd and escorting the man to safety.
It's unclear what the man's condition is following the attack, but witnesses say he appeared to be shaken up.
As for the 'Spider-Verse' sequel, it's set to hit theaters in December, and already has a massive following eagerly anticipating its release. And as this incident shows, fans are not to be trifled with when it comes to their beloved superheroes.
