In an effort to reward their son, Webb, for his academic achievements, Cross Plains parents in Nashville decided to make an unconventional trade-in decision. They swapped out his Cadillac for a more expensive and flashier 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition with 33 inch tires, 17 MPG average fuel economy, 8 inch lift, and 59,000 miles for a total of $26k. This begs the question - is trading in a luxury car for a rugged offroading vehicle really the best use of scholarship money?
The Wibble did some digging and found out that the parents apparently justified the decision by claiming that their son needed a car more suited for his college lifestyle. Right. Because what better way to focus on your studies than cruising around in a car built for mudding and beer pong.
It's clear that this decision was fueled by the parents' desire to keep up with the Joneses and show off their wealth. Perhaps they were also trying to compensate for having a son with a slightly underwhelming name like Webb. Who knows.
Despite the parents' best efforts to turn their son into the campus cool guy, it's unlikely that Webb will be the envy of his peers driving around in a gas-guzzling, oversized toy. In fact, he might even attract some side-eye from the environmentally conscious students who are more concerned with reducing their carbon footprint than revving their engines.
We reached out to Webb for comment, but he was too busy practicing his frat boy handshake with his new Jeep-loving friends. It seems that he's already embraced his new image and is more concerned with being a part of the in-crowd than with the practicality of his mode of transportation.
Only time will tell how this decision will impact Webb's future, but for now, it's safe to say that the Cross Plains parents have cemented their place as the stereotypical, overindulgent suburbanites. And who knows, maybe Webb will one day write a memoir about the trials and tribulations of growing up with parents who valued material possessions over practicality.
