In a startling yet hilarious turn of events, scientists have seemingly taken a break from more pressing matters, like climate change or global pandemics, to address the pressing issue of the century, or millennium, even - creating real-life Pokemon. That’s right. After extensive, and presumably gruelling research, they have managed to create a living, breathing (and mildly photosynthesising) Bulbasaur.
But that's not all. Far from being content with just the one Pokemon, our ambitious scientists have ventured further into the realm of make-believe. They've somehow managed to create a Pikachu, but before you start imagining your own personal electrical generator, let us correct you. Although this Pikachu is indeed electrically charged, it barely produces enough voltage to light up a single LED bulb. On the bright side, it's fuzzy, adorable, and doesn't require batteries.
Next in line, we have the fiercely cute Charmander, minus all the fierceness. This laboratory-created version won't be setting fires anytime soon, but it does emit tiny harmless puffs of smoke. We're not sure if that's a feature or a manufacturing defect, but hey, it’s something.
Finally, we must mention the Squirtle, which, instead of shooting high-powered water jets from its mouth, simply blows bubbles. This may seem less impressive by comparison, but you'll be grateful when you accidentally corner it in your bathroom, and instead of a full-blown indoor flood, you end up with a harmless bubble bath.
And there you have it. It seems that all our childhood fantasies about playing with real-life Pokemon have finally come true, just with a little less 'Pocket Monsters' and a lot more 'Petting Zoo'. While these lab creations might be miles away from the destructive capers of the original cartoons, we can't deny they're literally living, breathing examples of the adage, 'Be careful what you wish for.'
